Wakefield Coroner’s Court has recorded a verdict of accidental death on a window cleaner who died after falling off his ladder.
The court heard that Roland Jungbauer, aged 43, died after falling off his ladder while working at a house in Wakefield in March last year. There were no witnesses to the accident but the homeowner, Katie Mellor, told the court that when she returned to her home, Mr Jungbauer asked to be let inside only to collapse in the doorway. He was taken to Pinderfields Hospital and then Leeds General Infirmary but died a week later from a severe, traumatic brain injury without regaining consciousness.
The court heard that Mr Jungbauer was used to working at heights and had a conscientious attitude to safety. A close friend and fellow window cleaner, Paul Wilkes, said that he noticed after the accident that Mr Jungbauer’s ladders were broken on the third rung up and that his friend had previously kept his ladders in good working order.
