The manager of a major New York store is seeking $2m in damages for the “anguish and depression” he was forced to endure through having to visit an unstylish part of New Jersey every week.

Thomas Horodecki, who manages a Fifth Avenue store in Manhattan, claims that his supervisor forced him to go to New Jersey once a week as part of a role co-ordinating six retailers in the district.

He said that it was depressing driving in New Jersey and that compared to New York City, which had everything when it came to fashion, it had nothing. He also complained about the smog, bad driving and the traffic he encountered on his weekly commute and said that a number of Israeli women were promoted instead of him in Manhattan, forcing him to venture further afield.

His lawyers said that it was outrageous to treat employees disparately based on their national origin and or religion.
